Prairie Biotic Research Small Grants Increase in Size.
Prairie Biotic Research (PBR) is an all-volunteer, scientific public charity. It fosters basic field biological research in U. S. prairies and savannas. Over the past 16 years, Prairie Biotic Research has funded 275 grants totaling $264,236 to researchers in 37 states through their annual, competitive Small Grants Program.

Summary of the 33 Research Proposals Winning Funding in our 2017 Small Grants Program
We were able to fund 33 of 90 proposals this year, for a total of $32,160. Funded proposals were submitted by 19 men and 15 women, most of whom are academics: two professors, 13 doctoral students, nine masters students and three undergraduates. Seven are independent researchers. The 33 proposals come from 19 states: Alabama (1), California (2), Colorado (2), Florida (1), Illinois (5), Iowa (3), Kansas (3), Michigan (1), Mississippi (1), Missouri (3), Montana (1), Nebraska (1), Nevada (1), North Carolina (1), Ohio (1), South Dakota (1), Texas (2), Wisconsin (2) and Wyoming (1).

2017 Sir Edmund Hillary Mountain Legacy Medal Winner: Ing. César A. Portocarrero Rodríguez
Nepalese NGO Mountain Legacy has just announced that Peruvian engineer César Augusto Portocarrero Rodríguez will receive the Sir Edmund Hillary Mountain Legacy Medal in a public ceremony at Hotel Tibet International in Kathmandu on December 11 (International Mountain Day). César Portocarrero has directed projects to mitigate the danger of outburst floods from numerous glacial lakes in the Andes, saving thousands of lives and many millions of dollars, and he is now sharing his expertise with members of the High Mountain Adaptation Partnership (HiMAP), including Nepal, Bhutan, and several Central Asian nations.
